In Saju (Korean astrology), your main element is your Day Master's element, which comes from your birth date. Popular charts often use your birth year instead: years ending in 0–1 are Metal, 2–3 Water, 4–5 Wood, 6–7 Fire, and 8–9 Earth. The birth-year element is read as how others first see you. The Day Master element is read as your core, and your full chart shows how much of each element you carry.

What element am I in the Chinese zodiac? (by birth year)
Use the last digit of your birth year. One catch: the Saju year starts around February 4, so if you were born in January or early February, use the previous year.

Why your year element isn't the whole story
You carry eight characters, and each one has an element. Someone born in a Metal year can have a Water Day Master and a chart that's 40% Wood. Saju reads that mix, not a single label.
The mix matters because elements interact. Wood feeds Fire → Fire makes Earth (ash) → Earth holds Metal (ore) → Metal carries Water (condensation) → Water feeds Wood.

What element am I based on my birthday?
Two answers. By birth year (the Chinese zodiac way), use the last-digit table above. By full birthday (the Saju way), your element is your Day Master's element, which needs your exact date. A free Saju calculator works it out in seconds.
Can I have no Fire (or no Water) at all?
Yes, and it's common. A missing element is read as a blind spot or something you tend to borrow from other people, often the people you're drawn to.
What's the rarest element?
None. Each element covers two of the ten Day Masters, so across everyone they show up about equally. What varies is the balance inside each chart.
Is this the same as the Chinese five elements?
Yes. Korea, China, and Japan share the five-element system (in Korean, ohaeng 오행). Saju is the Korean way of reading it in a birth chart.
