• Korean astrology by date of birth: your Saju birth chart, explained

  Korean astrology is called Saju (사주), which means "four pillars." It turns the year, month, day, and hour you were born into four pairs of characters, eight in total, and reads them through five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. The character for your birth day, called the Day Master, stands for your core self.

  Western astrology reads where the sun, moon, and planets were in the zodiac when you were born. Saju, the Korean four-pillars chart, reads how five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) are distributed across the year, month, day, and hour you were born, and how they feed or check each other.

  Your Day Master is the top character of your day pillar in Saju (Korean astrology) or BaZi. It's one of ten: Yang or Yin versions of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.
